Spring is an exciting season in the White Mountains. It can bring many surprises including the last snowstorms of the season and more shades of green than you ever imagined. Spring skiing is a favorite of many visitors who make their trek into Tuckerman's Ravine on foot with equipment for a day of spring skiing the bowl followed by many enthusiastic onlookers. Alpine areas are often open well into April and possibly into May for the pleasure of skiing without the many layers needed for winter. With the help of typical late season storms, cross country trails may be groomed into April. Spring is a great time to upgrade or replace equipment for next season as area outfitters offer end-of-season sales on new and rental equipment. Venture on to the back roads and trails for some startling views of spring with the backdrop of winter still lingering at higher elevations. Stop to enjoy the raging waterfalls filled with melting snows. And, oh yes, leave time for some tax-free shopping to stock up for those much needed items for spring and summer and gifts for graduations, weddings, and new arrivals.
